Iris, the Chrysopteron or 'golden winged', is the personification of the rainbow and messenger of the gods - a female counterpart to Hermes, and usually associated with delivering messages on behalf of the female Olympians (especially Hera) more so than the male. By order of Zeus, she carries a ewer of water from the River Styx, which she can use to put to sleep anyone who perjures themselves. (In Ovid's telling of the Flood of Man, she fills the clouds which rain down on humanity from this ewer.) She has a caduceus as well.

Pulling from Nonnos primarily, Iris eventually would be wife of Zephyrus and mother to Pothos. Whether this will happen at the end of the universe remains to be seen.

Iris is from Hellenic mythology, and is the property of the public domain. They appear here solely for the purpose of role-playing in [community profile] milliways_bar, from which no profit whatsoever is being made.
