Flying and messages.
Flying is a gift form the gods, but is aided by the anemoi. Iris counts herself lucky to be on good terms with all of them - Zephyr in particular.
"My friend the chrysopteron comes to visit me!" Zephyr cries. Iris smiles despite herself when she takes flight, a rush of vibrant blue underneath her wing. "How fare your travels? Tell me everything!"
Away from the Twelve to not be immediately overheard, Iris returns, "You already know all, friend sweet-wind." And adds nothing more.
"Does the messenger of Hera Panhellenios have nothing to tell such a compatriot?"
"I apologize. I am simply distracted."

Everything seems to be happening too fast and he's not certain what he can hold onto as he's hurt what he had with Iris due to caring too much. Erik goes from looking at him with disdain to passion and Hank and Raven are caught up in each other.

"You could speak with me."
I wish I could, friend Zephyr. "That is not possible."
"We could pay homage to the Hesperides and take rest there for a time! Surely the Dodeka -- "
"No." It's final, and strong, and Zephyr is surprised by it. "I cannot."

She'd probably tell him to stop hiding inside and not work so much, but work makes sense.
Cerebro is a way to connect and let other mutants know they're not alone, yet the four of them here aren't fitting together as they could be.
no subject
Iris? Might I speak with you?
"The lady Athena Alalcomeneis beckons you," Zephyr sighs.
"It is always the way of my world." Iris tries to sound bright about it.

When he came upstairs everyone else was busy, which allowed him the time to slip away.
Perhaps he could hide a little longer or find a way to tell Iris he's thinking of her.

"I am aware I always have choices. We need to return to the Mount."

Charles is already organizing his papers and standing up as he gives the agent a soothing smile, "I was just looking for a quiet place to work. I'll come down with you."
"Thank you, this way, we found a desk for you to use that's closer. I'm not sure why you were all the way up here, sir," Then waits for Charles who tries once more to relax, the CIA don't really understand what they've brought in.
no subject
"I will."
Inside the home of the gods, Iris has specific roles and specific privileges. She will not overstep them.

Its closer to everyone, which is good, should be good, but he misses that quiet he found in Oxford, "It will work just fine, thank you. I'll be much easier to find this way."
The agent smiles at him as finally he understands, they don't want him too far away and then goes back to his own work.
Charles lays out his work on Cerebro again and from his inner pocket takes out the coil of Iris' hair and thinks, What am I doing here, my goddess? Today I feel as lost as dandelion fluff on the wind.

Athena is detailing the plans she has laid out for the protection of a city under siege along the coast, and her desire for Iris' help communicating back to her the course the enemy decides to take.
"...we cannot be lost in this, as dandelion -- "
Iris' eyes snap up with new attention to Athena's explanations, heart racing.
Are you well, Iris?

Though it wasn't a logical hope, just as hoping for Erik to understand his feelings when he doesn't understand them himself didn't make sense.
He should work and then talk with Hank about how to make it so Cerebro doesn't give him headaches and how best to use it to pinpoint mutants.
The hair stays on his notes as he reviews his memories, looking for the words to describe how he felt the world within his mind. Is that how we are to you, dear goddess? Hopes and feelings that you pass by on your way to another task.
no subject
"Do you have another task to attend to, messenger?" Athena calls, slightly peeved at Iris' inattention.
"I -- I am sorry, my lady. No, I do not."
But she does. And later, she flies to her father's.
"Father! I am here!" Iris shouts from her space, her corner of the river, and digs free Charles' token.
I can hear you! Charles!

While in the midst of trying to make sense of some physics, he feels something, a hint almost of Iris.
Though that shouldn't be possible and he frowns, tracing the coil of her hair before returning to his writing.
no subject
Did she dream it?
Charles? Charles! I can hear you! You are not lost!
no subject
Perhaps I should give up on work for today if I'm imagining the colors of your mind, Iris.

Iris lays down amongst the reeds, hand wrapped tightly around handkerchief and cufflink.
"You always did work too hard."
And it's far fonder than her tone has been of late.
no subject
You always seem so certain of me, Iris. I seem to have found myself on shifting ground.
Then he tuts at himself, this isn't doing much good, he might as well be meditating for all that his thoughts will be heard.
no subject
She'll keep listening.
If he's talking -- oh, yes. Iris will listen.
no subject
Later he'll talk to Erik, for now he just wants the wind on his face and a bit more quiet.
The window's still open and he looks out and thinks. Do I see truly see things that differently? If I have her, you, my dear, then I've no need of him. That the work we do here is foolish and we should chase after Shaw and don't care, it only hurts. I don't care too much and he can feel more than anger. There is a middle way.
no subject
But Erik has his own problems, and Charles is trying to fix everything - mortals don't work like that.
You cannot change him.
no subject
He should return to the others and see what he can do at the moment.
no subject
She heard him. Like she hears the others here, in her world.
There is work to be done here and Iris has dallied as long as possible. She leaves Charles' tokens with her father and takes flight again.
