Research!
After finding her way to Milliways again, Iris finally learned about the rooms upstairs.
And there is a library!
A copy of Aesop's Fables gets produced for Iris, and is read several times over with great interest and confusion (at times), before really thinking about the opportunities.
"...Where could I find a scroll on...genetics?"
The book provided by the library engrosses Iris for quite some time - she gives up the attention required to hide her wings from view after the first hour.

This ends up getting him a little lost before he felt the shape of Iris' mind, he grins and follows it to find her.
Once he enters the library, he's distracted by all the books and brushes her wings as he finds a first edition of Darwin's Voyage.

Immediately, Iris' wings disappear from view out of reflex, and she stands.
"How did you do that?"

It's all a whuff of astonishment, and looking at Charles as though maybe he has some kind of magic she hasn't discovered just yet.

Though he did know she was here before spotting her wings but then a book pulled him in. The book is getting slipped back on the shelf as she's far more interesting.

"You are just continuing to be unique.
"And it is not as though I am unhappy to see you, either."
Even if her book gets closed and held (hopefully innocuously) at her side.

"Well, I was looking for you and I'm glad I found you."
no subject
This is new.
"Something I should help you with?" Since this is usually why people look for Iris.
no subject
It's not a terribly good line but its also completely honest.

Iris just hands him the book in her hands.
"I was...investigating? It seemed important at the time."

"This would be where to begin. Mendel helped create many of the underpinnings of my work."
no subject
"So if I wanted to understand, I have much further to go."

"Your entire life is beyond my scope - so I need to learn."
no subject
"Then ask me and I'll answer."
no subject
But then there is the other side of the equation. So to speak.
"Would you tell me about where you live?"
no subject
As he has an idea of how he might show it to her.
no subject
"How you participate in it. Larger perspectives come from that."
no subject
He looks around for another chair and instead finds a stool which he sits on that puts him looking a little up at her.

Sometimes he does wish he could just hide in his work but teaching suits him.

He is the best at what he does but he doesn't want to draw too much attention to himself in interactions. That means he's perhaps not as favored as he might be.
